Hi, my name is Joey Mancilla. Along with the support of my mother, Carmelita Mancilla, my sister Grace Kelly Mancilla-Tan & her daughter Kim Daryle Tan and brother Kevin Kin Mancilla & his wife Christina Mancilla, we and our dogs that makes up ASAWOOD KENNELS!! Constantly, our handler and friend Boy Valido help us with our dogs. We rely our dogs veterinarian care from Pet Bureau with their very dependable doctors, Dr Nataniel Cheng and Dr Jerry Hawson (our highschool schoolmates). Earcropping of our dobermann is done only by Dr Sonny Daval-Santos. We have been breeding Dobermanns since 1982, producing Best in Show, Best in Specialty Show, National winners, Champion, Grand Champions, and Hall of Fame Champion Dobermans. Our emphasis in our breeding program is consistency and excellence in quality thus we have strived to produce the best Dobermans in the country. Some of our famous Dobes has succeeded in the rings in different countries as well. Under our Asawood prefix and affiliates, we have bred 196 Philippine Champions, 48 Philippine Grand Champions & 19 Philippine HALL OF FAME dogs, 21 all-breeds Best in Show and 9 Specialty Best in Show. We are proud to say that we have been honored to be PCCI TOP BREEDER OF THE YEAR IN THE PHILIPPINES four times already (1997, 2002, 2003, 2004). The 2007 Top Dog of the Year (both in PCCI & National standing), is a dobermann we have bred, Philppine hall of fame Asawd's Award of Merit aka "Neo" who at 20 months of age bacame the youngest dog to have ever won such a prestigeous acknowledgement.
We have been actively showing Whippets and lately have added Basenjis into our gang as well.
Asawood kennels.....the name that stamped QUALITY and CONSISTENCY in our breed and the name that will mostly be remembered for years to come......

196th PHILIPPINE CHAMPION ASAWOOD'S ODE TO MY FAMILY

We never tought of finishing "Jack" so soon. Actually this is the 2nd time that he is shown. "Jack", also known as Asawood's Ode to My Family is from the breeding we did with my sister's whippet, "Hot" aka Phil Ch Asawood's Hot Villavicencio. She was bred to Bob Dawson's fawn male, Louie, Phil Ch Blakriva Going Fot Gold (Aust). I choose "Louie" to "Hot" because I need bones and substance with her and I think "Louie" can compensate in this area. I also admire how "Louie" produces as a sire. "Bela", one of "Louie's" daughter is to me, the best whippet in Bob's house and I don't mind loosing to this very beautiful bitch. From this litter came 5 males mostly silvers and fawns. "Jack" is a stand out right from the begining. I would have to socialize him further to bring out his confidence but to me, he got good bones and substance. He is short back. Solid dog. sound movement. In his very first dogshow, Bobby Tesoro gave "Jack" the...

194th Championj Bulgari & 195th Champion Alpha

July 13, Sporting Dog Club of the Philippines held its back to back all-breed championship dogshow officiated by some of the countries best judges. They also have one invited foreign judge, Mr. Partha Chatterjee. We did well in most of the breed that we competed in but it will be more interesting to mention here the championship of Bulgari of Ocho bred and owned by Ernest Gala and Alpha of LT's Collection bred and owned by Lester Tiu. Surely they are not directly Asawood but I have included them in my list because their bloodlines are mainly asawood and I have always been there to guide them. Congratulation to their owners.

I acquired two dobermanns this sunday

I have always admired "Rolex". She was the one I would want to keep until my friend Joey Aquino proded me to let him have the dog. Joey and me have been friends for so long of a time and this is the only time he is buying a dog from me and I couldn't say no to him. So "Rolex" went home with him. Joey and his trusted man, Solomon did a wonderful job in conditioning this bitch. They were able to get reserve winners bitch in her debut PDF Nationals. She was also able to win one BIS in PCCI under Jenny Egan of Australia and another one BIS under John Stanton of New Zealand. Solomon have guided "Rolex" to this wonderful wins but I would have wanted to show her in a different way. To my opinion, she would want won more if she would be handled by the veteran handlers like Jerry, Landle, Boy or Abet. I got a chance to talk Joey into selling her back to me and he adamantly agreed. So last sunday, we took "Rolex" into the ring ourself a...

189th Phil Ch Gretchen, 18th Phil HOF Holy & 19th Phil HOF BLO

Saturday June 28, we were able to finish the championship of Asawood's Princess Gretchen. She went Winners Bitch/Best of Breed/Group 3rd under the Russian judge, for a 5 point major to finish. Asawd's Da Vinci Holy Grail ("Holy") and Sun Dog Dobe Blo v Asawood have both attained their Philippine Hall of Fame. Holly have always been by dobermann/whippet. She grew up with my dobermanns. She was the first one to finish after I returned from my hiatus from the breed. "Blo" is actually Mariechelle and Ricky Sun's dog. She was actually from an accidental breeding of a mother to son (naughty dogs are they?)

Having been involved with dogs for a long time now, I have captured the respect of some dog people in the dogdom. This is probably the reason why the Malaysian Kennel Club have asked me to be one of their invited judges to officiate their very first Battle of Champions. I don't know what to expect as this is my very first time in this country but hopefully, I get to see alot of great dogs and got the chance to compare the dogs in our country to the dogs in our neightboring asian country. I will go there with out any idea as to who is the top dog or who are the handlers or owners. this will give me a fresh outlook in providing a fair assessment of their dogs. I got my invitation last February. Seing this oportunity as a good chance for my friends to appreciate dogs on the other country, I invited Dr. Nathaniel Cheng and Zywin Que. Both agreed to go with me. Their prospect was to see how the dachshunds and other hound breeds in Malaysia are...

Low and behold, our mother goat gave birth to three baby goats

We had goats before. their purpose is mainly to clean up the grass in front of our house. Then the female goats died leaving the patriac goat and his son. So we have to buy another goat to atlease continue having them. this was last year and the goat we bought already have one birthing with us of two female goats. But sad to say, one of this babies got stolen. We are not expecting anything from her because its been a while since she had given birth and she haven't been pregnant until yesterday when she gave birth to three beautiful baby goats, one male and two females. I don't know if she can sustain in rearing three babies because she only got two nipples. I hope all three babies lived. I will post their photos here

When I tought I have enough............... here comes another one

After having done 6 litters of basenjis the last few months, I told myself, thats it, I would not breed another basenji until next year or so I tought...... Well, when I least expected, my kennel boy told me that one of the basenji is pregnant. I told him how can that be posible when almost all of the females (except PHIL HOF Jenny and her daughter PHIL HOF Girlie) just have their litters had I haven't seen any of the females comes into season or have we bred any one of them lately. The only suspect in my mind was Jenny because she have PHIL HOF Azedo with her along with PHIL CH Aiza, PHIL GRAND CH Diana, PHIL CH Solo, and PHIL CH Jeda. Girlie is sleeping with PHIL GRAND CH Bianco and Jazz have PHIL CH Mambo baside him. that is the sleeping quarter arrangement. I truelly know that Jenny have already passed her season. I am confident to mix her with a male and with the rest of the females who just had their litter because I know that she is thru her se...

MY BASENJIS ON MEL & JOEY

I got a friend, Sam & wife Chyndy who previously bought from me a dobermann puppy which was my share from a litter sired by my stud, "Cross". They were highly recomended by my good friend, Bernie Montiero, so I didn't gave them too much trouble to be "Julia's" new owners. I was very glad that I did because they gave Julia the best home and have treated her like their own child (very pampered & spoiled). Julia even have her own yaya (oh taray di ba)! Before I go any further & gets lost in my main topic, Sam & Chyndy works in GMA 7. I being a loyal KAPUSO viewer, I am glad to have known this couple. Its like being in and knowing the right people har har har. Unknowingly, in their frequent visit to my kennel, they have tought of the idea of featuring my kennel in some of the programs they are handling. The basenji, being a new breed in this country is the right matherial to feature. "Basenji", the barkless dog from Afric...

THE FIRST EVER NUEVA ECIJA DOG SHOW

When Richard Joson was conceptualizing of putting up a club in their province, he have already ask me to support their club and/or dog show. I agreed. They invited a good line-up of judges, March 1, saturday, they have Michael Hollobone and Robert Dawson. March 2, sunday, they have Ronnie Natividad and Ms. Tong Sue Lynn. I came in prepared with 7 dobermanns, 7 whippets and 2 basenji puppies. This is really a lot of work and sacrifice in our part but the organizer really made our stay in Nueva Ecija very enjoyeable. They have the Greenland leisure suit as a villa type motel where dogs are allowed to stay inside the airconditioned room. The Joson's, Roland Rebulledo, the other officers and members of the club really knows how to put up a show even if it is their first time to hold an official dogshow. there were minor hitches in the begining but nothing was too big not to be ironed out. Michael Hollobone's Best in Show was a dobermann, Phil...

How to choose a Top Caliber dog

People would frequently ask me, "what do you think of my dog?". Having been within the inner circle of the dogworld myself, I have created a reputation of being honest with my assessment when I am being ask of their precious pooch. I ofcourse wouldn't want to offend anybody BUT.... I do give them a straight answer. If I think the person asking it wouldn't take the criticism of their dog then I just keep my observation to myself and give him a pregnant smile. I feel flatered that even if I have been discreditted by alot of people, my opinion is still being ask by others. They know that I will give them what I think the true picture is. Now, the constant question always being asked of me is that "would my dog be a winner?". This is hard to answer BUT having been in this interest for quite so long, I can honestly say that I can give a good assessment whether the dog will be a winner or will just be among the common decidens that would win some and...

ANOTHER BEST IN SHOW FOR ROLEX

"ROLEX' IS VIRTUALLY UNKNOWN IN THE DOGSHOW. SHE WOULD PARTICIPATE THE SHOW BUT IS NOT A MAJOR THREAT TO THE OTHER EXHIBITOR BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T USUALLY WIN. THIS IS BECAUSE SHE DON'T REGULARLY ENTERS IN THE DOGSHOW. SHE IS ALSO VERY YOUNG STILL. BUT THE FIRST SHOW OF THE YEAR OF PCCI, SHE WON BACK TO BACK BEST OF BREED. DENISE TYSEN GAVE HER GROUP 2ND BEHIND THE BOXER AND THE SECOND RING, JENNY EGAN ON THE OTHERHAND GAVE HER THE PINULTIMATE AWARD OF BEST IN SHOW. THIS IS HER VERY FIRST BEST IN SHOW & THIS MAKES HER OWNERS: JANJUB AND JOEY AQUINO VERY PROUD AND MAKES HER HANDLER SOLOMON THE ADDED CONFIDENCE OF HANDLING ROLEX INTO THE NEXT LEVEL. "ROLEX" DIDN'T PARTICIPATED IN THE HOUND GROUP CLUB SHOW FOR SOME PERSONAL REASON. THE NEXT SHOW THEY ATTENDED IS THE SPORTING DOG CLUB ALL-BREED. THE JUDGES WERE MARIBEL SY AND JOHN STANTON. "ROLEX" IMPRESSED JOHN STANTON THAT HE GAVE HER HER 2ND BEST IN SHOW. THI...

DREAMS DO COME TRUE

I have known Joey Aquino for quiet some time now. I enjoy his company because, like me, he is very frank & honest. We use to compete against each other. He have a bitch he got from Meralco whom he named "Otso". "Otso" is their most spoiled dog who have her fair share of winnings. At the time "Otso" was being shown, we are also showing "Samantha" then later on "Marilyn". We have always respected each one's dogs and would warmly congratulate each other when one of our dogs would win. "Otso" wasn't really a producer thus. she would sometimes have a few puppies but basically, none would be of her same quality. When Joey retired "Otso", he told me that he wants a female puppy from me and if I have one, I have to inform him. I know that Joey A is very "maselan" when it comes to owning a dog. He wants a good one. He have a distinct type on dogs that if he sees it in a particular dog, he would buy it. The year 20...
