We never tought of finishing "Jack" so soon. Actually this is the 2nd time that he is shown. "Jack", also known as Asawood's Ode to My Family is from the breeding we did with my sister's whippet, "Hot" aka Phil Ch Asawood's Hot Villavicencio. She was bred to Bob Dawson's fawn male, Louie, Phil Ch Blakriva Going Fot Gold (Aust). I choose "Louie" to "Hot" because I need bones and substance with her and I think "Louie" can compensate in this area. I also admire how "Louie" produces as a sire. "Bela", one of "Louie's" daughter is to me, the best whippet in Bob's house and I don't mind loosing to this very beautiful bitch. From this litter came 5 males mostly silvers and fawns. "Jack" is a stand out right from the begining. I would have to socialize him further to bring out his confidence but to me, he got good bones and substance. He is short back. Solid dog. sound movement. In his very first dogshow, Bobby Tesoro gave "Jack" the Breed and Group from the class. Partha Chatterjee awarded "Jack" Best of Winner. In all, he took 9 points. Then this PCCI show, Diane Besoff gave "Jack" a Best of Winner/Runner-Up Best of Breed (behind "Bela")/Best of Opposite Sex/Group 2nd for a 3 points major and then Ron Besoff awarded "Jack" Best of Winner to finish for that last 3 points. "Jack", born January 09, 2008 is only 6 months and 11 days today as he finish his Philippine Championship. Ron also put up "Jack's" sister, Asawood's On Top Of D World for Winners Bitch (3 points) and Phil Ch Asawood's Lightning Kawana Best of Opposite Sex (3 Points). "Lightning" will finish his Grand Championship soon with only 3 more points to this title.
AFTER ATTENDING THE IMPACT SHOW LAST JUNE 26-29 WHEREIN THERE WAS AN ALL-BREED SHOW IN EACH DAY. I FLEW TO THAILAND WITH "NEO" AND "SARRAH". "NEO" WAS SHOWN IN ALL OF THIS FOUR DAYS WITH FOUR BEST OF BREED, THREE BEST IN GROUP AND ONE RUNNER-UP BEST IN SHOW IN THE AKU SHOW. "SARRAH" WAS ONLY SHOWN THURSDAY AND FRIDAY BECAUSE MY FRIEND SUTHA DOESN'T WANT TO FINISH HER TITLE SO EARLY. THERE WAS CONFUSION AS TO WHETHER "NEO" HAVE ALREADY ATTAINED HIS THAI CHAMPIONSHIP. SOME QUARTERS SAID HE HAVE ACCUMULATED THE NECESSARY POINTS TO FINISH HIS THAI CHAMPIONSHIP WHILE OTHERS SAID THAT HE STILL LACKS A FEW MORE POINTS. WELL, "NEO" IS FINISHED AND I AM VERY PROUD TO HAVE HANDLED HIM TO THIS CHAMPIONSHIP.
July 13, Sporting Dog Club of the Philippines held its back to back all-breed championship dogshow officiated by some of the countries best judges. They also have one invited foreign judge, Mr. Partha Chatterjee. We did well in most of the breed that we competed in but it will be more interesting to mention here the championship of Bulgari of Ocho bred and owned by Ernest Gala and Alpha of LT's Collection bred and owned by Lester Tiu. Surely they are not directly Asawood but I have included them in my list because their bloodlines are mainly asawood and I have always been there to guide them. Congratulation to their owners.
Before I board the plane going to Thailand, I remembered by very dear friend RD. I missed him so much because he haven't been into the dogshow for more than 1 year now. His shih tzu before was high quality with lots of imports. But life change when his brother got sick and the family's priority changed. RD's interest with the breed drifted and the quality of his shih tzu dwindled. I went early to the airport because I got two dogs with me ("Neo" & "Sarrah") and I gave lots of time allowance so that I would not have any problem with my trip. I texted RD and ask him how he is. I told him I was going to Thailand and if he wants me to get him a shih tzu. His initial reaction was, "Joey, I don't have money". I keep on convincing him to return to the show scene and he keeps on giving me so many excuses. Later on he relented (Because he knows that I will not stop on making kulit to him). He gave me a few conditions thus. 1st, he gave me a specific budget $2,000 which is what he can afford at this time. Then He wants a good movement and a good front. When I got into the show thursday June 26, I was in the group of Kai the Hearty Shih Tzu lady. She got soooo beautiful shih tzu and they are well groomed. I love to get any one of her shih tzu for RD but she doesn't have anything available at this time. So I went around to look. The next day, I watch the shih tzu competition. I saw this dog won the CC and I told myself, my God, why did this shih tzu won. He was so makulet and got very dark but unattractive color but when I went near the dog, I come to appreciate his head which could have look better if he would have groomed better. I ask the handler and his owner if I can touch the dog, they allowed me and wow, what a front. I ask that he be moved, his movement was magnificent. I ask the handler who speaks fluent english if he is for sale. He said yes. I ask for the price, $2,000. I am seing that this is what destiny is all about. All what RD wants in a dog including the price is with this dog. I didn't hesitated and paid for the dog. I brought him back and RD was in the arrival waiting for his new dog. Now the dog is now called Wang Wang. what an irony.
I have always admired "Rolex". She was the one I would want to keep until my friend Joey Aquino proded me to let him have the dog. Joey and me have been friends for so long of a time and this is the only time he is buying a dog from me and I couldn't say no to him. So "Rolex" went home with him. Joey and his trusted man, Solomon did a wonderful job in conditioning this bitch. They were able to get reserve winners bitch in her debut PDF Nationals. She was also able to win one BIS in PCCI under Jenny Egan of Australia and another one BIS under John Stanton of New Zealand. Solomon have guided "Rolex" to this wonderful wins but I would have wanted to show her in a different way. To my opinion, she would want won more if she would be handled by the veteran handlers like Jerry, Landle, Boy or Abet. I got a chance to talk Joey into selling her back to me and he adamantly agreed. So last sunday, we took "Rolex" into the ring ourself and manage to win Best of Opposite Sex. We went home with "Rolex" and would start bonding with her. I have always wanted a "Neo" puppy. Since "Neo" will be staying out of the country for a longer time, I was looking for a puppy of his to own. I have tried buying Trinity from John Aquino but he wouldn't want to sell. Last saturday, Juancho Gobaton, the handler and trusted man of Alex Tantuco brought their 2 puppies sired by "Neo". He have with him 1 male and 1 female. the male is splitting image of Neo. the female is ok but im looking for something great. Juancho agreed to bring the other puppies and warned me that the two puppies that they'll be keeping is TOTALLY NOT FOR SALE. I agreed. Anyway, Im just scouting for my next dog. the next day he brought the other 5 puppies. the first two males was shown to me. The one they were keeping look very much like their grand father, Oman but more moderate. He looks heavy. the other male is nice. I think I would go with the male that I saw the day before. then, Juancho brought out the bitch that they are keeping, she is nice. very elegant, temperament is so confident. then he brought out the other two bitches. As soon as I saw the yellow collared puppy I said to my self, "Wow, this is a puppy I want". I don't want to let Juancho know what I was eyeing but the handlers have begun to flock and before I loose the chance of owning this exceptional puppy, I handed to Juancho the leash of the puppy and have told him that I will take her and that I will discuss the price with him later on. Everybody knows that, since I have been soooooooo long with the breed, and most of the people in the crowd agreed with my choice. I am sure that I didn't made mistake with this puppy and hopefully she grows up into the lovely dobermann that I picture her to be.
July 5, Saturday, in the single show of American Cocker's Aniversary show judged by Ekarat, Asawood's Princess Caroline finish her championship. July 6, Sunday, PDCPI back to back all-breed. We are able to finish Asawood's Princess Diana via Group 2nd under John Rowles for that final 5 point major, Betchai Asawood De Montiero also finish with her last major under Dave Strachan. Asawood's Lady Bug, a dobermann female that we co-bred with Ghel Colet attained her championship under John Rowles who pick her as his Winners Bitch for a 2 points. Other dogs who won are Ashton of LT's Collection who took BOS (1 point)under Ekarat, BOS (3 points)under Dave Strachan and BOB/Group 2nd (5 points) under John Rowles. He only needs 18 more points towards his Hall of Fame Title. Asawd's Felicity Shadowpark took BOS (5 points) under John Rowles.
Saturday June 28, we were able to finish the championship of Asawood's Princess Gretchen. She went Winners Bitch/Best of Breed/Group 3rd under the Russian judge, for a 5 point major to finish. Asawd's Da Vinci Holy Grail ("Holy") and Sun Dog Dobe Blo v Asawood have both attained their Philippine Hall of Fame. Holly have always been by dobermann/whippet. She grew up with my dobermanns. She was the first one to finish after I returned from my hiatus from the breed. "Blo" is actually Mariechelle and Ricky Sun's dog. She was actually from an accidental breeding of a mother to son (naughty dogs are they?) This is the reason why accidents do happen for a reason and "Blo" is a good reason why this thing happen. I came back from a four day show in Thailand with considerable success. Asawood's Princess Sarrah, after being shown in their thursday and friday show already have 4 cc's. we decided not to finish her because the owner still wants to enter her in the puppy class. "Neo", Phil HOF Asawd's Award of Merit was very strong in his group winning 4 best of breed, 3 best in group and 1 runners-up best in show in their AKU show. He already have approximately 50 points with 4 cc's. In due time he will attain his Thai championship.
I got a great opportunity to show "Neo", Philippine Hall of Fame Asawd's Award of Merit, in this very prestigeous show. It all started when I got an inquiry about "Neo" and a deal was agreed that I bring "Neo" to Thailand to be shown in this show for new "SPONSOR", Mr C S Sanjay. I want to be part of this events historical unfolding that is why I agreed. I got my handler friend, Boy Valido to give me some pointers on how he was able to guide "Neo" to his 12 BIS and eventually the Dog of the Year. I also plan to get my basenji to be shown there and eventually get her Thai Championship. As the time gets near our departure, June 25, we still haven't gotten a confirmation from the airline that they will allow dogs in this particular flight. We got confirmation the day before the actual departure. GREAT! then I went to Cubao to purchase my ticket. We arrive a day before the dogshow. When we arrive, we were met by Sutha, Kai of Hearty Shih Tzu, Jessica, Key and Sean. Then we travel a few hundred miles off the city of Bangkok where the Impact show was to be held. Our hotel is actually about 5-10 minutes away from Impact. We stayed in Eastin Lakeside Hotel. We got a spacious place for ourself with two rooms and a sala with kitchen. The next day, the venue was really incredibly big. They have three big rings for the all-breed and another ring was for the performance competition. There were booth galore with all the things you want to buy in dogs. I first checked the schedule of what time I would go in what ring and get accustom to their way of dogshow. Thai are very nice people but there were only a few who knows how to speak English. I was fortunate that Kai's nephew, Evan was half American who came in for a visit and he was a big help in interpreting for me. Thursday was the 56th KCTH all-breed. Group 2 judge was Ms Tong Sue Lynn (Singapore) and BIS judge was Ms Ko I-Shin (Taiwan). "Neo" took the Best of Breed and Best in Group. Friday was the 57th KCTH all-breed. Group 2 judge was Mr Masamitsu Fukushima (Japan) and BIS judge was Carla Molinari (Portugal). "Neo" took the Best of Breed but Mr Fukushima went for two bulldog in the group. Saturday was the AKU all-breed. Group 2 judge was Ms Jacqueline Quiro's Kubat (Argentina) and BIS judge was Ms Tong Sue Lynn (Singapore). "Neo" took Best of Breed, Best in Group under Ms Quiro's-Kubat and Sue Lynn gave "Neo" Runner-Up Best In Show. Sunday was the FCI all-breed. Group 2 judge was Ms Carla Molinari (Portugal) and BIS judge was Mr. Fukushima. "Neo" went Best of Breed and Best in Group. This experience for me was something I would treasure for a long time. I am fortunate that my host, Sutha Tienrungsri, was very generous and made my stay very in Thailand very comfortable. Sutha have whippet aside from his standard and miniature poodle. He showed his two whippets in the two later show and I came to see what quality of whippet he have. He volunteered to give me a puppy from his latest litter whose sire is from very famous whippet in Singapore, the Dreamchamber whippet. I am thankful of all the people I have met in this trip. from the gangs in the Hearty shih tzu group (the very lovely Kai, the topknot expert key, the ever lovely and demured Jessica and the others), that I was holed in. They were so nice and treated me as one of them. To Mr Vetri Duraisamy who came all the way from India to watch his shih tzu win, to Creative shih tzu, Century shih tzu, Oh, the handler who have pekengese, to Somsak whose knowledge in dogs gives me a respect to this man who is very simple yet full of knowhow. Bigbone bulldog who is very trusting, Pongsak's pom, the very elegant owner of the FCI BIS winning sibe who is also the distributor of Plush Puppy. And also to the very sexy Sasa, of Omega One shih tzu, who have save my last day in Thailand, I now call her sister and she knows why. to all of you, thank you. Neo is staying with Sutha. He will be shown in the next Thailand show on July 18-20. He will then fly to Malaysia to be shown in their International Dogshow on July 26-27. Hopefully this will merit some award to get his eligibility of being International/Malaysian/Thailand & Philippine Hall of Fame. There are also plans to show Neo in America and in South America and then ofcourse in India in November to February where their big shows are usually held.
Let me start my story when Maynilad started digging the whole Metropolis with the refurbishment of it's old pipes to service the entire citizenry of Metro Manila where Maynilad have it's share of area. I was soooo pizzed off because it coinsided with the interview done to me by Mel & Joey where my basenjis were featured. In our area, It was my house whom they start the digging and it was the day before my interview was to be conducted. I was really very stressed in keeping my place clean and how I can minimize the sound of the drilling of the jack hammer outside my kennel. Well, they were able to complete the job infront of my kennel and by the time the interview was conducted, the sound off the whole destruction was not at all heard in that interview. This was some moons ago...... They have started fixing some areaas in our subdivision and I was wondering why they have not started fixing my area since this was the first area they destroyed. We had hard time going to the dogshow because we are not able to past thru the road they drilled and the whole front of our gate are unpassable. We have to park outside then load each one of the dogs and their crate in the vehicle so as to attend dog show. hassle di ba! Last sunday (June 22) was PCCI show. We took home Neo with us to prepare for our trip to Thailand tomorrow. The next day (June 23), we took Sarrah and Neo to the Vet to have their microchip implanted. I park my Tribute in front of our gate. I have the kennel help prepare the two crates and load both dogs into our car. When we were leaving, we saw the Maynilad people starting to sement the portion of the front wall. great!!!!!!!!!!! We went to Pet Bureau Clinic, accomplished what we have to do and went back to the kennel after a few chit chat. When we arrived, we saw the whole area of our front semented. Ang saya, atleast sementado na ang kalsada sa harap ng bahay namin. I have my kennel boy took the small vari kennel with Sarrah inside into the house then I took Neo and have another person took the vari kennel of Neo. We (Neo and I) have to jump at the same time to avoid the semented part which was still wet at that time. Well, Neo didn't know whats wet and whats not wet so he steps into the wet sement and left a big paw print infront of our gate. Yes its like what the superstars do in Hollywood where they leave their foot print, hand print or even star in the Hollywood where visitors can observe all the great stars that shines in the moviedom. This to me is what Neo did in this kennel of mine. Neo left a big mark for people to accolade and this gives us the recognition that we truelly deserve as a breeder. Neo's owner, John Aquino did a great job in keeping Neo in top shape which makes judges easy to notice him and have always put him up. Neo, you did us proud. When I feel low and sorrow, I will walk infront of our gate and look at the print you have left. Mamimiss kita. Sana kung saan ka man dalhin ng kapalaran, magtuloy ang iyong pamamayagpag. This will be your last night in my kennel. I hope you would visit me some other time but I pray to God that we be a WINNER in Thailand and bring home the bacon. Sana lang. Sana!
Asawood's 184th champion breeding is none other than "Rambo", a red & white basenji male owned by Nelson Uy who is insidentally the very first basenji champion breeding of Asawood. He also was able to get 10 points towards his grand championship with 2 best of breed wins at 6 months 18 days young. 185th Asawood champion breeding is Betina Asawd De Montiero. 186th Asawood champion is Braggi Asawd De Montiero. Both this brindle whippets are not even 9 months old (8 months 23 days). 187th Asawood champion breeding is Asawood's Heaven wd Angel, a black & rust dobe bitch that Asawood have sent to their old time friend, Manuel Jon and son Pawpaw. She took a couple of points in Iloilo and finished under Bob Dawson. 188th Asawood champion is Bugatti of Ocho. "Bugatti" is bred and owned by Ernest Gala who bought his mother, Phil Ch Asawd's Ultimate Seduction from us. "Bugatti" is the 3rd of his sire Aust/NZ/Phil Ch Cowboy to attain it's championship. He attained his Philippine Championship at 6 months and 21 days old. His sister, Bulgari had a very impressive weekend taking 10 points towards her championship. 47th Philippine Grand Champion for Asawood is Winnerall Laura. Laura was a product of our collaboration with the Fonseka family. I sent our Philippine Grand Champion bitch "Rhea" to Malaysia because I learned that the Fonseka just got this very handsome dobermann named "Pokeymon". "Pokey" is such a multi titled dog that it is a great opportunity given to me to be able to breed to the dog with me getting a puppy in return. "Laura" was the puppy I got. She is such a strongly built bitch that we are sooooo excited to breeding her now because she is in season. Having attained her grand championship is such a proud crowning moment for the dog that I have dreamed of having. Now, Laura will have a break from the show scene to be a mother. Hopefully she & Neo will produce lovely puppies.
June 7 & 8 is the Chihuahua Federation's 9th & 10th All-Breed Dog Show with two foreign judges, John Forbes of Australia and Katsuji Fukunaga of Japan. We are able to finish our 182nd Philippine Champion, Asawood's Heaven Help Us aka Raven under John Forbes who gave her Winners Bitch for a 3 points major. The 183rd Philippine Champion is Rebelyel's Cairo v Baccarat, who, under Katsuji Fukunaga went Winners Dog/Best of Winners/Runners-Up Best of Breed/Best of Opposite Sex for the final 4 points major. Breeder/Owner of Cairo is Roland Rebolledo and Richard Joson. Cairo is the 2nd son of Neo to attain his championship.
May 31 was the back to back hound group show in eastwood. The 1st show was judged by Milo Valdes. The basenji comes in first in the competition. Boy Valido didn't show up so I got to arrange all the dogs myself and find the apropriate handlers for each of my puppies who just turned 6 months. Since this is their first show in the regular class, I don't know what to expect. Princess Stephanie's owners, Richard Joson's family are all in the USA right now so she was not shown. Prince of Tide aka "Rambo", I had a driver pick him up from his owner, Jan Uy, the day before. "Rambo", was the only male so he took winners dog. Princess Sarrah, who was in the owner's handled class took winners bitch/best of winners/ and best of opposite sex over a champion bitch. Since my friend Dr Nathaniel Cheng is tied up with some other commitments, I have to step in and help in arranging all his dogs. His miniature dackie whom I took in the group competition took Group 2nd (or was it 3rd). His standard didn't do well and only took BOS with his Dragon Fly. Bong Natividad on the otherhand chooses "Rambo" for his best of winners while "Sarrah" still got the winners bitch. Dr Cheng's Malaysian Champion Vicky took Best of Breed and a Group 3rd. In whippet, we took winners bitch with Beatrice (for her 2nd 5 points major) while our specials, Holy Grail took Best of Breed and a Group 2nd. She now have 82 points towards her Hall of Fame title. June 1 was the Miniature Pincher all-breed show. We brought the same dogs, 1 regular male basenji, 4 regular female basenjis, 1 regular male whippet, 2 regular whippets, 1 special whippet plus we also brought 4 regular female dobermanns and 1 special dobermann. the result in basenjis are just the same as the day before with Bong Natividad so "Rambo" now have 9 points-3 majors. Sarrah now have 13 points-4 majors. Bobby Tesoro who is now well and up and about is judging his first dogshow after his heart surgery. Dr Cheng's mini dackie named Ara took Best of Breed, standard smooth dackie, Malaysian Champion Vicky took Best of Breed. His own breeding, "Tribute" took Best of Opposite Sex. In Whippet, Braggi took Winners Dog for a 2 points (he now have 5 points) and Betina took Winners Bitch/Best of Winners & Runners-Up Best of Breed for a 5 points (she now have 8 points). In Dobermann, he choose Rolland Rebolledo's Cairo for Best of Winner/Best of Opposite Sex for 3 points, Whimpsey took Best of Breed/Group 2nd (5 points), and Blossom got Runners-Up Best of Breed/Group 4 (1 point). His Best in Show is the top winning beagle "Mickey" and the Siberian took Runners-Up Best In Show. Frankie Leung went with Dr Cheng's standard smooth Tribute and Vicky only took Best Opposite. in whippet, he choose "Beatrice" for that solid 5 points via winners bitch (which finish her championship). In dobermann, it was almost the same up to BOW except Whimpsey took the Group and it was "Bonjing" who went Best of Opposite/Runners-Up Best of Breed and Group 3rd (5 points) which eventually finish his grand championship title. Best in Show was the same beagle, "Mickey" and the Runners-Up Best In Show was the Shih Tzu handled by Henson Tan. I wana thank all the handlers who was there to step in when I badly need assisstance. Nomer, Jed, Landle, Dennis. If I forgot anybody else then it was not intentional. We are truelly proud of our 180th Champion Beatrice Asawd De Montiero who finish 8 months and 9 days old and also to our 181st Champion Asawood's Mt Tabor Mirage. We are equally proud of "Bonjing" who is our 46th Asawood Grand Champions. Again, we hope to achieve more title in the next show and hopefully report it here to share them with all of you. Congratulation to our friend Jed Chua's yellow beagle who took Best in Group under Milo Valdes and also got a Group placement under Bobby Tesoro (I think).
Having been involved with dogs for a long time now, I have captured the respect of some dog people in the dogdom. This is probably the reason why the Malaysian Kennel Club have asked me to be one of their invited judges to officiate their very first Battle of Champions. I don't know what to expect as this is my very first time in this country but hopefully, I get to see alot of great dogs and got the chance to compare the dogs in our country to the dogs in our neightboring asian country. I will go there with out any idea as to who is the top dog or who are the handlers or owners. this will give me a fresh outlook in providing a fair assessment of their dogs. I got my invitation last February. Seing this oportunity as a good chance for my friends to appreciate dogs on the other country, I invited Dr. Nathaniel Cheng and Zywin Que. Both agreed to go with me. Their prospect was to see how the dachshunds and other hound breeds in Malaysia are. Our flight is tomorrow, May 24, 8pm. We should be in the airport by 6pm. I will make update on this as I finish my assessment on how the qualities of dogs in that country are compared to our dogs here.
We had goats before. their purpose is mainly to clean up the grass in front of our house. Then the female goats died leaving the patriac goat and his son. So we have to buy another goat to atlease continue having them. this was last year and the goat we bought already have one birthing with us of two female goats. But sad to say, one of this babies got stolen. We are not expecting anything from her because its been a while since she had given birth and she haven't been pregnant until yesterday when she gave birth to three beautiful baby goats, one male and two females. I don't know if she can sustain in rearing three babies because she only got two nipples. I hope all three babies lived. I will post their photos here soon.
After having done 6 litters of basenjis the last few months, I told myself, thats it, I would not breed another basenji until next year or so I tought...... Well, when I least expected, my kennel boy told me that one of the basenji is pregnant. I told him how can that be posible when almost all of the females (except PHIL HOF Jenny and her daughter PHIL HOF Girlie) just have their litters had I haven't seen any of the females comes into season or have we bred any one of them lately. The only suspect in my mind was Jenny because she have PHIL HOF Azedo with her along with PHIL CH Aiza, PHIL GRAND CH Diana, PHIL CH Solo, and PHIL CH Jeda. Girlie is sleeping with PHIL GRAND CH Bianco and Jazz have PHIL CH Mambo baside him. that is the sleeping quarter arrangement. I truelly know that Jenny have already passed her season. I am confident to mix her with a male and with the rest of the females who just had their litter because I know that she is thru her season. The last thing that I would want right now is another basenji litter because I have kept a number of puppies from my previous breedings that my hands are full right now. I have 4 red bitches from Bianca sired by PHIL HOF/AM CH Austin. One will go to Mico and another one is still available. One have already gone to Richard Joson. from Aiza ex Azedo, I kept the tri bitch and gave Katlyn, my sister-in-law's sister the red sister. I still got a very nice male that lots of people wants to buy but..... I still haven't decided what to do with him. He is the only male that I have intentions of keeping. In Jeda ex Jazz liter kept the two tris and my handler Boy got the red sister. Orig to Azedo, my co-owner Jongjong kept most of the puppies. With Solo ex Jazz, I kept the lone female. in Mambo ex Claridon I kept the 2 tris. and lastly, in Diana ex Jazz litter, I kept the 2 tris and still have a tri and a red male available. So you see, I have so many things going on with my basenjis. Then I am awaiting the arrival of American Champion Beep. Having a basenji litter is the last thing on my mind at this time but...... I always see the positive side of things. God gave me this as a blessing so I am not here to complain although I am not so lucky with my doberman breedings lately. Jenny to Azedo would be a very good breeding. 1st, they are not related. I need something outcross to bring into my very tight breeding stock and this will keep the loose ends together. 2nd, pheno type, they compliment each other. Jenny to me is the epitome of the most correct balance dog that I have seen in a basenji. Both got great sound movement so this area would be accentuate. I am now getting ready to rear this litter and is anticipating the puppies with excitement. I will post here some development in the future.
I got a friend, Sam & wife Chyndy who previously bought from me a dobermann puppy which was my share from a litter sired by my stud, "Cross". They were highly recomended by my good friend, Bernie Montiero, so I didn't gave them too much trouble to be "Julia's" new owners. I was very glad that I did because they gave Julia the best home and have treated her like their own child (very pampered & spoiled). Julia even have her own yaya (oh taray di ba)! Before I go any further & gets lost in my main topic, Sam & Chyndy works in GMA 7. I being a loyal KAPUSO viewer, I am glad to have known this couple. Its like being in and knowing the right people har har har. Unknowingly, in their frequent visit to my kennel, they have tought of the idea of featuring my kennel in some of the programs they are handling. The basenji, being a new breed in this country is the right matherial to feature. "Basenji", the barkless dog from Africa! I tought they were only joking but loved the idea of being in TV. har har har. Hey, who wouldn't want to be featured in TV and enjoy the 5 minutes fame. I didn't tought they were serious until one day I recieve a call from Micholl who kept me updated on the process of the story line having to be approve. It took about a month of correspondence until finally I got a call from Micholl schedulling me for the interview 1:00PM of March 25, 2008. I am so excited and nervous as well. i wana make the interview interesting & informative thats why I am trying to learn more about the breed. We also made alot of cleanning up in our place (well, we tried! :-)). So the day of rekonning is today. I hope I don't make a mess of myself. I am not telegenic as well so I hope that the camera would be a little kind with me and hopefully, I am able to show the viewer of Mel & Joey the joy of having basenji as pet. This is my passion right now & I am very happy with what I am doing. I am very happy with my dogs which is what is important. Watch the show this sunday ha!!!!!
When Richard Joson was conceptualizing of putting up a club in their province, he have already ask me to support their club and/or dog show. I agreed. They invited a good line-up of judges, March 1, saturday, they have Michael Hollobone and Robert Dawson. March 2, sunday, they have Ronnie Natividad and Ms. Tong Sue Lynn. I came in prepared with 7 dobermanns, 7 whippets and 2 basenji puppies. This is really a lot of work and sacrifice in our part but the organizer really made our stay in Nueva Ecija very enjoyeable. They have the Greenland leisure suit as a villa type motel where dogs are allowed to stay inside the airconditioned room. The Joson's, Roland Rebulledo, the other officers and members of the club really knows how to put up a show even if it is their first time to hold an official dogshow. there were minor hitches in the begining but nothing was too big not to be ironed out. Michael Hollobone's Best in Show was a dobermann, Philippine Grand Champion Sun Dog Dobe Blo v Asawood owned by Mariechelle & Ricky Sun. Things were really great this weekends show. we had lots of fun in the dogshow. the hospitality was great. Mel Tuason did very well in being the chairman of the show and handled all the trouble shooting. Again, I thank all the people who was part of the show for giving us a warm wellcome. The organizer really needs to be congratulated for putting up a very well organized dogshow.
People would frequently ask me, "what do you think of my dog?". Having been within the inner circle of the dogworld myself, I have created a reputation of being honest with my assessment when I am being ask of their precious pooch. I ofcourse wouldn't want to offend anybody BUT.... I do give them a straight answer. If I think the person asking it wouldn't take the criticism of their dog then I just keep my observation to myself and give him a pregnant smile. I feel flatered that even if I have been discreditted by alot of people, my opinion is still being ask by others. They know that I will give them what I think the true picture is. Now, the constant question always being asked of me is that "would my dog be a winner?". This is hard to answer BUT having been in this interest for quite so long, I can honestly say that I can give a good assessment whether the dog will be a winner or will just be among the common decidens that would win some and loose plenty. Judges would ofcourse have their different view on almost everything. They will have a different interpretation of the standard. They would give different importance on particular area of a dog. Some would go for good head, others would be more on bone and substance. quite a lot of this judges would judges based on movement. If I would be ask, how would you assess a dog and differentiate a commoners from the winners. This is easy, the dog should have the IT factor. what IT factor? Well, it is hard to quantify this into just one word. The dog should have Karisma. It should stand on it's own when inside the ring. It should have fairly decent movement. It should be symetrical and balance. It doesn't have to be the best dog but a dog that would command attention. So basically, one should look for breed type in a particular dog. Soundness is of importance and so is balance and the most important thing, specially in the BEST IN SHOW competition, one should have the karisma and showmanship. This is the reason why we regularly see dogs like "Neo", Mickey, Poppy, Ricardo, the pom of Basilio and the peke of Dr Lo. Because all of this dogs have the necessary advantage for them to get noticed and they would be shown very well by their handler and would always in top condition. So, if I would be ask, "Is it easy to have to TOP WINNER"?, the answer is no! It takes alot of hard work and the right MATHERIAL. the right MATHERIaL means that you gota have the right dog and the right handler to the dog to win consistently. My advice is for people to observe the dogshow, see for yourself why each one of this dogs wins consistently and make your own conclusion as to why each one of this dog wins over the other. basically, we are just getting the opinion of one certain individual that got the expertise in assessing a breeding specimen to further the quality of the said breed. There are also fads in dogs but this would come and go. The basic principle is for you to adhere to the standard set for the particular breed that you are involved with. STUDY it and make your own assessment as to why it was written that way. It was written that way for a reason you know. If you adhere to the standard of your breed, you will not go wrong.
"ROLEX' IS VIRTUALLY UNKNOWN IN THE DOGSHOW. SHE WOULD PARTICIPATE THE SHOW BUT IS NOT A MAJOR THREAT TO THE OTHER EXHIBITOR BECAUSE SHE DOESN'T USUALLY WIN. THIS IS BECAUSE SHE DON'T REGULARLY ENTERS IN THE DOGSHOW. SHE IS ALSO VERY YOUNG STILL. BUT THE FIRST SHOW OF THE YEAR OF PCCI, SHE WON BACK TO BACK BEST OF BREED. DENISE TYSEN GAVE HER GROUP 2ND BEHIND THE BOXER AND THE SECOND RING, JENNY EGAN ON THE OTHERHAND GAVE HER THE PINULTIMATE AWARD OF BEST IN SHOW. THIS IS HER VERY FIRST BEST IN SHOW & THIS MAKES HER OWNERS: JANJUB AND JOEY AQUINO VERY PROUD AND MAKES HER HANDLER SOLOMON THE ADDED CONFIDENCE OF HANDLING ROLEX INTO THE NEXT LEVEL. "ROLEX" DIDN'T PARTICIPATED IN THE HOUND GROUP CLUB SHOW FOR SOME PERSONAL REASON. THE NEXT SHOW THEY ATTENDED IS THE SPORTING DOG CLUB ALL-BREED. THE JUDGES WERE MARIBEL SY AND JOHN STANTON. "ROLEX" IMPRESSED JOHN STANTON THAT HE GAVE HER HER 2ND BEST IN SHOW. THIS IS QUIETE A FEAT BECAUSE ITS 2 BEST IN SHOW IN A ROW. WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUTURE IS INSTORE FOR ROLEX BUT DEFINETELY SHE IS LEAVING A MARK WHICH MAKES PEOPLE NOW CONSIDERS HER A CONTENDER. "ROLEX" MAKES US ALL PROUD IN ASAWOOD. HER FABULOUS MOVEMENT IS JUST BREATHTAKING. SHE MAY NOT BE PERFECT BUT............ SHE HAVE THAT X-FACTOR THAT MAKES HER A CUT ABOVE THE REST. LETS ALL PRAY THAT "ROLEX" CONTINUES HER WINNING STREAK AND HOPE THE FUTURE GETS BETTER FOR HER.
I have known Joey Aquino for quiet some time now. I enjoy his company because, like me, he is very frank & honest. We use to compete against each other. He have a bitch he got from Meralco whom he named "Otso". "Otso" is their most spoiled dog who have her fair share of winnings. At the time "Otso" was being shown, we are also showing "Samantha" then later on "Marilyn". We have always respected each one's dogs and would warmly congratulate each other when one of our dogs would win. "Otso" wasn't really a producer thus. she would sometimes have a few puppies but basically, none would be of her same quality. When Joey retired "Otso", he told me that he wants a female puppy from me and if I have one, I have to inform him. I know that Joey A is very "maselan" when it comes to owning a dog. He wants a good one. He have a distinct type on dogs that if he sees it in a particular dog, he would buy it. The year 2006 was a crossroad in my breeding program. I am regularly getting puppies that are weak in toplines & are unsound in movement. This is when I seek a very dear friend's help and advice. He told me that he knows of a certain dog that is owned by a friend of his in New Zealand that is producing fabulous movement. This particular dog is the sire of the number one top doberman in Australia as well as having been titled in Australia & New Zealand. I got another friend, Architech Susan Policarpio Fabian to co-venture with me to import this particular dog which is now Australia/New Zealand/Philippine Champion Sharinway's Shado-Lan's Cowboy (Canada). The day he arrived I have a bitch in heat, Philippine Champion Asawood's Black Beauty (Angel) & I think it was a lovely combination. From this breeding, three females came out. One female was given to Susan. her name is Fantasy. Another female went to Augusto Eastrada who became Philippine Champion Asawd's Fidelity Shadowpark. I was supposedly to keep "Felicity". One day, Joey A. visited my kennel to see my dogs (i was offering him another dog at that time). He immediately feel in love with "Felicity". He would always day after day ask me to let him have "Felicity. Knowing that Joey A. would give a good home to "Felicity, I relented even if that was my puppy to keep. "Felicity" became known as "Rolex", Philippine Champion Asawd's Felicity Shadowpark. She went into an ugly stage on her adolesence period. But Joey A. have faith on "Rolex". He knows what he have is a winner. He loves "Rolex" not because he wants a winner but because he loves her type & Joey A. adores "Rolex's" temperament. When Joey A. decided to show "Rolex", he had Solomon, his trusted personel to guide "Rolex's" show carrer. Solomon, having been handling some of Joey A.'s minipin is not new to handling dogs but he still have to learn alot of thricks the seasoned handlers have. Joey A. knows that with experience, Solomon would be the best alternative for "Rolex". After finishing her championship, "Rolex" would mostly win runners-up best of breed but the break is no where in sight yet until........... this weekend's PCCI show we have Jennie Egan (Aust) & Dianne Tyssen (New Zealand). Both judges saw the flawless movement of "Rolex". They both appreciate the beauty of her neck that flows into her well laid in shoulder. She have the best footing outthere with long reach & powerful drive. She may not be perfect but she would always command attention. "Rolex" took back to back best of breed. Ms. Tyssen gave her 2nd best in pincher group. Ms Egan put her up for Best in Group. We were suppose to have went home after most of our dogs lost (hehehehe, we didn't have a good result this weekend). But I know that I have to be there to support "Rolex". I know, being her breeder, I have to be by her side rooting for her. The first judge to do best in show is Ms Tyssen. She gave best baby puppy in show to a cocker spaniel bred by my bestfrind Patrick Go & is owned by our dear friend, Tita Coty Otsuka. Best in Show was Christopher Columbus, a cocker spaniel owned by Junko Murphy Runners-Up BIS was a pom owned by Basilio Yap. Then it was time for Ms. Tyssen to judge best in show. baby puppy in show went to a very spunky beagle. Ms. Egan was very meticulous & tideous. She went over them three times to make sure that her Best in Show is the dog she truelly feel deserving of the top award. Finally it was clear to the expectator that it was down to the dobermann, the siberian and the pekengese but she just couldn't let her eyes off the dobermann. she really loves her & awarded Best in Show to "Rolex". Joey A., the only time that he is not watching dogshow (watching dogshow according to him is a stress reliever away from his busy work schedule) probably busy with his business, have his nephew there. I am very happy for my friend Joey A. who really worked hard to get "Rolex" in top form & also Solomon who up to at the minute, didn't succumb to pressure. Finally Joey A. have a best in show dog but im very happy that they have given "Rolex" a good home. Runner-Up BIS was Poppy of Aris & Ruby.
